Diamond hole saw sizes chart (mm and inches)
A diamond hole saw is a cup or crown with diamond grit on the cutting edge, built for granite, quartz, porcelain, marble, glass, and hard ceramic: the materials that kill toothed bi-metal saws [1][5]. The size story is genuinely two languages. European and trade brands sell the same tool in millimeters, 19 to 114 mm for Duro [9] and 3.5 to 114 mm across C4 Carbides' lines [10], while the US brands sell inches, 1/4 to 4-1/8 in on Bosch's HDG ladder [1] and 1-1/4 to 4-1/2 in on Milwaukee's Diamond MAX cups [5]. This chart puts both ladders side by side, maps model numbers to sizes, and then answers the question people actually type: which size for a faucet, a soap dispenser, a shower valve, or a downlight, using the fixture makers' own spec sheets wherever they exist and saying so plainly where they do not.
Scope boundary, stated up front. This page is about cup and crown diamond hole saws for stone and tile slab work. It is not about toothed bi-metal hole saws for wood, metal, and plastic, whose sizes, teeth-per-inch, and materials are a different subject, and it is not about shaft-style diamond tile bits, the 3/16 to 1-3/8 in spear and twist bits that run in a drill driver. If the tool looks like a hollow cup, you are on the right page.
Chart A: the mm ladder with inch equivalents
The millimeter ladder below is anchored on MARSHALLTOWN's published size table (grinder-compatible DTT part numbers plus three drill-compatible DTTD part numbers) [8], corroborated per row by C4 Carbides' published mm range [10], Duro's DU-DHS range [9], and Bosch and Milwaukee inch listings where the conversion matches. Where a US brand sells the same nominal size under an inch fraction, the inch column shows it. Fractions are the makers' own; conversions in the mm column are rounded to the nearest millimeter and rows print the makers' published values rather than arithmetic conversions of each other.

How to read the gaps. No single maker sells every millimeter step; the table shows who sells what at each rung, and the "none" entries are real catalog gaps, not omissions. Bosch's ladder is dense in inch fractions (28 sizes from 1/4 to 4-1/8 in, working lengths 1 in on the small saws and 1.5 in from 7/8 up) [1], while Milwaukee splits its line in two: one-piece hex-shank bits from 3/16 to 1-3/8 in and threaded cups from 1-1/4 to 4-1/2 in [5][6]. MARSHALLTOWN's grinder-first DTT ladder is deliberately sparser, 16 grinder sizes plus 3 drill sizes, because its 7/8 in (22 mm) flange format targets angle grinders [8].
The Bosch HDG ladder: all 28 sizes
Bosch publishes the complete HDG single-saw table on one category page, and it is the cleanest inch-first rail in the class [1]. Working length is 1 in on 1/4 through 5/8 and 1.5 in from 7/8 up. Every HDG saw is vacuum-brazed with segmented teeth and a stated 1 in maximum cutting depth, for porcelain, granite, and ceramic [1][4].

Kit decoding, because the sets hide the singles: HDG11 is 9 saws (1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 5/8, 1, 1-3/8, 2, 2-1/4, 2-1/2) plus mandrel and AutoStart pilot bit; HDG7 is 5 saws (5/8, 1, 1-3/8, 2, 2-1/4) plus mandrel and pilot; HDGM is 3 saws (3/16, 1/4, 1/2); HDG138QA is one 1-3/8 saw plus mandrel and pilot [2][3]. Bosch's AutoStart pilot bit is the spring-loaded, retractable shaft that lets the saw start without a pre-drilled pilot hole [2].
The Milwaukee Diamond MAX ladders: bits and cups
Milwaukee splits its diamond line by construction. The one-piece bits have a 1/4 in quick-change hex shank and a large slug ejection slot, and run 3/16 to 1-3/8 in [5]. The cups are threaded for standard hole saw arbors, span 1-1/4 to 4-1/2 in, and also fit Milwaukee's Pull Back Arbor with Retractable Starter Bit and an angle grinder adapter [6][13]. The 6-piece set 49-56-5730 packs 1-1/4, 1-3/8, 1-1/2, 2, and 2-1/2 plus the pull-back arbor [13].

Chart B: size by task, from the fixture makers' own sheets
The honest way to answer "what size for X" is to read the fixture manufacturer's installation sheet, not a forum. Where a first-party fixture spec exists, the row cites it. Where no first-party source publishes a required hole size for the task, the row is marked REFUSED rather than guessing; those rows explain what IS published so the reader can decide.

Caveats, row by row where the sources disagree. Faucet hole requirements vary by model even within one brand: the Delta sheets above run 1-5/16 to 1-1/2 in, so a 1-3/8 in saw is the safe middle but 1-1/4 can be too small for some models; check your sheet. The soap dispenser rows deliberately show two different first-party answers (Kraus minimum 1-1/4 in, Kohler 46 mm head) because "the" soap dispenser hole does not exist. And the downlight rows show why this chart refuses a single "recessed light size": Halo alone prints 106, 114, 140, 146, and 159 mm cutouts across its 4 to 6 in lines [28][30][32]. Third-party articles that quote one number per nominal size are averaging, not citing.
Wet or dry: what each maker actually says
Diamond hole saw cooling is where manufacturer positions genuinely differ, and this section prints only published positions. Bosch: the HDG line is "for use only with machines designed for wet sawing and on a GFCI-protected circuit" [1][4], the strictest line in the class. Milwaukee: "dip bit in water before each cut" is the printed usage rule on the Diamond MAX pages [5][13]. C4 Carbides: wet-or-dry, with a protocol, "dip the hole saw in water before starting the cut and every 5 sec during cutting" on porcelain, hard tile, stone, and glass, and "use dry on all other materials" [11]. MARSHALLTOWN: its arranged diamond hole saws are marked "Dry or Wet" in the catalog header [8]. Duro: its Ultra DU-DHS holesaws are published as "run dry or wet," with wet cutting named for porcelain, quarry tile, granite, travertine, marble, reinforced glass, stone, and reinforced cement [9].
On construction, two bonding methods dominate: vacuum-brazed diamond grit (Bosch HDG [1], Milwaukee Diamond MAX [5], Duro DU-DHS [9]) and sintered or arranged diamond rims (MARSHALLTOWN's arranged diamond pattern [8]). The makers' own claims track with it: vacuum-brazing is pitched for speed and diamond retention (Milwaukee claims up to 10X life versus unspecified standard, an in-house figure we print as a claim, not a measurement), while the arranged pattern is pitched for longevity and clean cuts with minimal chipping.
Speed: REFUSED for most of the table. Bosch, Milwaukee, Duro, and MARSHALLTOWN publish no per-size RPM guidance for these saws, and we will not invent one. The only first-party numbers found: C4 Carbides specifies 1,500 to 2,000 RPM on a drill for wetDRY saws and 8,000 to 12,000 RPM on an angle grinder for its waxDRY line [11]. Not to be confused with: two cousin tools
Two neighbors in the drawer get confused with diamond hole saws, and the distinction is mechanical, not marketing. First, toothed bi-metal hole saws: those have hardened teeth and TPI counts, cut wood, metal, and plastic, and are the wrong tool for stone, which strips their teeth. Second, shaft-style diamond tile bits like the DeWalt DW557x ladder: those are solid diamond-tipped bits from 3/16 to 1-3/8 in that run in a drill driver and pull water up a reverse spiral. The overlap zone is small sizes (a 1/4 in diamond hole saw and a 1/4 in diamond tile bit both exist), but a shaft bit cannot open a 68 mm downlight hole and a 114 mm cup cannot plumb like a shaft bit. If you are drilling anchor holes up to about 35 mm in tile, either class can work; above that, it is cup country.
